Navigating a new city can be challenging, especially for asylum-seekers, refugees, and stateless individuals who often face additional challenges in accessing essential services. UNHCR, Refugee.Info, and ACCMR produced City Guides for Athens and Thessaloniki to help people overcome these challenges and efficiently access essential services.

The information is available in nine languages: English, Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Greek, French, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Somali.

How to use the Guides?

The City Guides are organized into categories, making it easy for users to locate specific services. The main categories include medical, educational, legal, integration services and many more. The information provided for each entry includes:

  • The organization's name.
  • The service offered.
  • Address (if available).
  • Email.
  • Phone number.
  • WhatsApp number.
  • A QR code for direct access to detailed information. When scanned with a smartphone, the QR code is directed to the Refugee.Info website, where you can find more detailed and updated information about the service.

How to scan a QR Code?

Scan a QR code with an Android device

  • Open your camera app and point it steadily for 2-3 seconds towards the QR code you want to scan.
  • A notification will appear whenever scanning is enabled. If nothing happens, you can enable QR code scanning in your Settings app.
  • If QR codes aren't an option in your settings, your device unfortunately cannot scan QR Codes natively. You'll have to download a third-party QR code reader app.
  • If you need to download an app to scan QR codes for Android, please open Google Play and search one of the following recommended applications or any other QR application you prefer. Download and install the "Google Lens app" or the "QR Code & Barcode Scanner app" (no ads). Then, open the app and point your camera to the QR code.

Scan a QR code with an iOS/Apple device

  • Open the Camera app from the Home screen, Control Center or Lock screen.
  • Select the rear-facing camera. Hold your device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the Camera app. Your device recognizes the QR code and shows a notification.
  • Tap the notification to open the link associated with the QR code.
